The Spanish World2Fly operates charter flights with Czech tourists from Prague to Cuba once a week using an Airbus A330-300 regularly landing at the Holguin airport.
The Cuban government warned international airlines today that Cuba will find itself without jet fuel for all its international airports for a month from February 10. According to Havana, the reason is the "oil siege" by the United States. The information was published via NOTAM.
The fuel shortage affects all major Cuban airports, including Havana, Varadero, Santiago de Cuba and Holguin. Airlines have not yet publicly announced how they will deal with the situation, but in the past they have solved similar problems by making stopovers for refueling in the Dominican Republic or Mexico.
The measure could further worsen an already serious crisis for Cuban tourism, struggling with the consequences of the pandemic, US sanctions and long-term economic problems. Some countries have previously warned their citizens from travelin...

This winter, five planes from the Czech carrier Smartwings are based at the Indian airport in Ahmadabad. This airport made headlines this spring due to the fatal accident of Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The captain reportedly cut off the fuel supply to both engines of the plane shortly after takeoff, causing the aircraft to crash into the city.
The Czech planes fly from Ahmedabad for SpiceJet, another Indian carrier with which Smartwings has been cooperating for over a dozen years. Boeing 737-800s registered OK-TVM, OK-TVR, OK-TVS, OK-TVU and OK-TVV are based in India. All of them fly with SpiceJet stickers on the fuselage.
Smartwings and SpiceJet are long-standing partners. The cooperation between the two carriers began in 2013, when the Indian carrier leased four Boeing 737-800s to the Czech carrier for the summer season. One Indian aircraft then flew from Prague for Smartwings (then still Travel Service) during the following summer season.
Czech aircraft also went to India fo...

Smartwings established a new partnership with a carrier from the African country of Cameroon last year. Camair-Co is the largest carrier in the country and the planespotters.net website states that it operates a fleet of six aircraft. Last year, several routes of the Cameroonian carrier were operated by a Boeing 737-700 of the Czech Smartwings.
However, the smallest of the Boeing 737s in the Czech carrier's fleet has already been retired, so three Boeing 737-800s are flying in Cameroon this winter.
The Boeing 737-800 registered OK-TVG (production number 30719, manufactured 2007) was the first to fly to Africa in Camair-Co colors. It was active in Cameroon from October to mid-November 2025. Then it returned to Prague. Today, it flies on Smartwings routes in Czech colors again.
Another Boeing 737-800 registered OK-TVJ (serial number 29351, manufactured 2004) has been flying continuously in Cameroon since autumn 2025, also in Camair-Co colors.
In mid-November, the Boein...

The Boeing 737-900ER registred OK-TSM (production number 34952, manufactured 2007) flew from Prague to Yanbu in Saudi Arabia on December 30, 2025. Since the beginning of the year, it has been acting as one of the support aircraft for the famous Dakar Rally, which is held in this country. Smartwings aircraft have been accompanying the race for six years.
In an interview given to the Garáž.cz website last year, the captain of the Boeing 737 Jan Šťastný, who is supporting the Dakar Rally for the second year, revealed several interesting facts about the flights. He told the magazine how they landed at the airport in Shubait in 2024, which belonged to the Aramco oil company a few years ago. "This year we're in for another challenge. It's a bit of a wilderness, it's not a standard airport with air traffic control, so we follow different procedures. And if anything happens there, it's a problem because you can't get anywhere. There's no cell phone signal or backup system used at re...
